Copyright policy (DMCA)

Last updated: Draft — not yet reviewed

Placeholder — one real action item before this is functional

This follows the standard notice-and-takedown structure under 17 U.S.C. § 512, which is what actually gives you DMCA safe-harbor protection as a platform hosting user-uploaded video. But safe harbor only applies if your designated agent is registered with the U.S. Copyright Office(copyright.gov/dmca-directory) — that's a real filing you have to do yourself, this page alone doesn't confer the protection. If you have users outside the U.S., check whether an equivalent notice-and-takedown obligation applies (e.g. the EU's Digital Services Act).

Reporting copyright infringement

If you believe content on DubQik infringes your copyright, send a written notice to our designated agent (contact info below) that includes:

  • A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or someone authorized to act for them
  • Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed
  • Identification of the material claimed to be infringing, with enough detail for us to locate it
  • Your contact information — address, phone number, and email
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on their behalf

What happens after a valid notice

We remove or disable access to the material identified in a valid notice and notify the account holder who uploaded it. Repeat infringers' accounts are subject to termination.

Counter-notification

If your content was removed and you believe it was a mistake or misidentification, you can submit a counter-notice including:

  • Your physical or electronic signature
  • Identification of the removed material and where it appeared before removal
  • A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the removal was a mistake
  • Your name, address, phone number, and consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court in your district

After a valid counter-notice, we may restore the content in 10–14 business days unless the original claimant files a court action first.

Designated agent

[Name, address, phone, and email of your designated DMCA agent — must match what you register at copyright.gov/dmca-directory. Not filled in with a placeholder because a wrong or fake designated agent contact defeats the entire purpose of this page.]

The voice-cloning-specific angle

Beyond copyright, someone appearing in a video they didn't consent to having their voice cloned from has a claim that isn't really about copyright at all — it's closer to right of publicity or impersonation. This page's process is for copyright specifically; a separate reporting path for non-consensual voice cloning is worth having, since that complaint won't always come with a copyright claim attached to it.
